June 1, 2014 Ginger Martin lives on her late husband's farm in the Shenandoah Valley, raising three young children and working as a nurse. Now her in-laws want to sell the farm, and Ginger is wondering how she can keep it when money is so tight and there is no one to do the work. But the farm is her children's legacy, and Ginger is determined to hold on to her home. The sudden appearance of a stranger dressed in a Civil War uniform will change everything for the Martin family. The mystery man turns out to be Samuel Annanais, a Confederate soldier killed in battle but unable to move on to the next world. Somehow, the Martins are able to interact with him, and Samuel becomes an important part of life on the farm.
